Sky Anytime question

This feature appeared on the box a couple of weeks ago.

We don't subscribe to any of the movie chanels; does this mean we can't view
the films that are on the Anytime TV part of the Sky+ box?

Thats right. If you do try to watch you just get a banner asking you to
phone sky to upgrade. Sky Anytime fills (half of) my disk with Movies
and Sport which I don't subscribe to. A couple of the coloured buttons
select "Entertainment" and "Documentaries" which filters out the ones I
can't watch so it is not too much of a problem.

I guess they do this to tease you with content which might persuade you
to upgrade. Personally I would rather the sky+ software checked the card
plugged into the box and then only recorded it if the card was capable
of letting me watch it.

Since Sky Anytime is just "Forced Recording" I would prefer they just
allowed you to turn it off completely and gain disk space for my own
selection of programs. The fact they send everyone the same programs
irrespective of subscription status shows this is just a "broadcast" by
another name. Simple minded people will believe it's VOD.

I understand that you can turn it off in the settings (I don't have it
so I can't confirm this from my own experience).

That doesn't free up the disk space which has been "protected" even before
Anytime started.

Nothing will do that (at least turning it off prevents a lot of
unwanted hard disk use) - I agree with you it's annoying and I
shouldn't be pleased (I have a Sky+ 160 so I'm safe for the moment);
obviously Sky think it's a wonderful idea, and so do some of their
customers.

Silly question how does it use space as my planner is at 100% even though i
have anytime with loads recorded on it and nothing recorded normally on my
sky+.

I can't speak from personal experience, but I think that the partition
reserved for Anytime isn't counted on your own disk usage: so the used
percentage only reflects recordings you have made yourself. The AnyTime
space is separate and managed by Sky - you can't record to it so it
isn't counted.

Yes, it's because the lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.

It isn't actually partitioned but essentially you are correct. The counter
only refers to the 80gb you are allocated for recording on.
