But then you need to carry your photo printer in your handbag - unless you
expect people to squint at the tiny screen.

Some have quite big screens now, enough to resolve text on a blackboard
filling the frame. Trust me, I've done it !

I've often wondered.... when microsoft decided that all keyboards
should have the extra 3 windows keys, (and has anyone ever
used the windows context menu key on the right?) why
didn't they re-label several of the barely used keys on the
keyboard as cut, copy, and paste? Even just the F1-F12 keys
could have been labelled with their 'normal' windows functions?

Suppose I could get a pen out and write on the X,C, and V keys...

Have a look at a microsoft multimedia keyboard and many of the later
versions, and they have done just that - the F keys are labelled by
function and have a separate "Fn Lock" button (and LED) you need to push
to get them to behave like function keys again. They also changed the
six key pad layout above the cursor keys that makes then a pain for
programmers!

(the bit that amazes me is the 35MB hard drive space requirement for the
driver install!)

I once told my sister that was the 'any key', she believed me. ;-)

There's an Allt Street in Rawmarsh (or Parkgate).

There's a River Alt near where I live.

Funnily enough, I was using it today :o) Alt gr + Del was being used to
send the three-figured salute to a virtual PC app on a training course.

I used to have a laptop, where the delete key was next to the power
button. After a couple of disasters, I set 'autosave' in Excel and
Word to 1 minute !

I use Agent for newsgroups and fo some reason it always overwrites if
I need to go back. I can't get it to change.

INS in addition to toggling overwrite mode in some applications (and if
you grew up with commodore 8 bit machines that will be the "normal" way
to edit!), it can also be used as a "paste" key when used with shift.
DEL (i.e. directly below it) will act as a cut key when used with shift.

Wasn't that the default way in Windows 3.11? (I've only used Ctrl-x/c/v
relatively recently....)

Hence they are actually quite well placed for rapid cut 'n' paste
operations (where a "copy" being simulated by holding SHIFT and then
hitting DEL & INS in sequence - a style of work that will feel natural
to VMS users!)

Indeed :o)

I've found Agent gets out of synch with scroll lock from time to time
(amongst other random things).

To get scroll lock back I usually have to turn scroll lock on (which
is actually off according to the keyboard indicator, but off according
to the label in the bottom corner of agent). Close Agent then turn
scroll lock off and fire agent back up.

Personally, I wish you would sod off.

And what's SCROLL LOCK? What's PAUSE BREAK?

Obsolete. They were used in the days of dumb, character-based computer
terminals. I don't know of any software that makes use of them.

Clearly, you don't know very much then. Pause and Ctrl-Break are used in
text mode and I found out by accident just the other day that Excel at
least uses Scroll Lock.

But what's SYS RQ?

Obsolete. Not used for anything.

********. SysReq is often used as a way to break into a program when
running under a debugger. At least, that is what I use it for.

Your 'i' key seems to be generating the wrong letter.

Someone will combine a digital camera with one of those projection clocks
so you can project your photos onto the wall in the pub 'real soon now'

Perfectly feasible, with a pocket-sized nuclear power source.
