Losing the Sky+ £10 fee

Hello,

I am looking into either reducing my sky+ subscription to the minimum
package (around £15 I believe) or even cancelling altogether and making do
with the free channels.

I know if I do this I will lose my sky+ recording facility.

1. If I cancel altogether, can I still pay the £10 sky+ fee and be able to
record the free channels?

2. Is there any way to keep the recording facility but get out of paying the
£10 sky+ fee with either the £15 package or no package?

Its ridiculous that sky charge you to be able to record.

Thanks
Scott.

No but just about the best Sky+ deal at present is to take a minimum sub at 15 pounds per month plus
Sky HD at 10 pounds per month which includes free Sky+.

I, for one, had not reliased that the 10 pounds HD subscription *INCLUDED*
the Sky+ features of the STB - I had assumed that this was another 10 pounds!
It is really good if it does (and it makes an HD STB far more atrractive to

Bit of a cheek charging £60 to install, I presume you just switch the boxes
over or does it need new wiring etc.?

If you already have Sky+ with two feeds from the dish then it is just a box swap involved. You don't
have to pay the £60 installation fee as you can buy the box separately & install it yourself.

Thanks for the replys. I'm seriously considering a freeview recorder like
the humax 9200. Was also looking into this top up tv thing as I wouldnt
mind adding a couple of channels like UK Gold.

I've had a look at the top up tv website and it looks like you have to buy a
one of thier pvr boxes.

What I really want is to buy my own freeview recorder but add a few top up
channels like UK gold. Is this possible?

Whats the general feeling about top up tv? My initial thoughts were its not
bad if you want a few extra channels for a small monthly layout but I've
seen a few threads saying it rubbish/rip off etc etc.

Thanks
Scott.

Tits Up TV isn't worth it, they just download a few programmes here and
there from various channels to the box overnight so you can then watch
them.

Oh God it is kak. They are rip-off merchants, their box doesn't work,
they don't have any decent programs - avoid like the plague.

You can record radio but you have to do a manual recording - entering start
time and finish time.

That would be nice...

I have a setup whereby I switch to BBC R4 when I go to bed and then when
I wake up next morning I can switch the wireless speaker on and listen
to Toady without getting up.

Of course the new auto-standby feature killed that, until I turned it
off. I doubt if I would save enough power to make it worthwhile doing
something else to turn it back on again, like a Manual recording of 1
minute of R4 every day at 6AM...

Apart from Anytime TV (also turned off) what else came in that last SW
upgrade ?

TIA

It won't save any power at all. It's just a token exercise for Sky to make
themselves sound environmentally-friendly because that's the current
trendy
buzzword for people to latch on to who have nothing better to think about.

So what's better to think about in your opinion?

It seems to me that "not thinking at all" is all to common. People who don't
have the time to think about which bin rubbish should go in for example.

:-) I remember hearing that a sky box uses pretty much the same amount of
power turned on or on stand by. No source for this, but if John wants to do
more than sound like an anti-technology luddite, he should provide figures
to back up his arguement. If he said "Putting the box on stand-by uses 76%
less electricity" then he`d have a sound basis for his complaint, otherwise
it`s all pointless posturing :-)

If the council want to halve my waste collections from weekly to fortnightly,
then halve my council tax. Any environmental fannying about can be done at
their cost, not mine.

Perhaps they should

Since I was retorting about recycling I haven't made any Luddite comments at
all. I've already said that this is all Green Spin from SKY because the
government was calling for Standby itself to go in favour of true Off or
Deep Hibernation, neither of which would require people to live the lives of

Not a bad idea. All sorts of things could go in it - recyclable waste,
non-
recyclable waste, chavvy kids who spend all day shouting, those blokes
with the bloody mini-motorbikes who make a racket, then their
mini-motorbikes and, finally, every ****ing pigeon in the neighbourhood
just for waking me up :)

Coo !

Waking up is relative. I don't think he's ever woken up to anything beyond
his own small existence.

You're making the mistake that I care about your insults.

No, don't see many pigeons here in Italy, they're too easy to shoot.
Lots of other birds in the dawn chorus though...
