Maybe the studio releasing the movie on DVD could cut off the very left and very right sides, rotate them sideways and run them along the tops and bottoms of the finished picture. That would fill up the whole screen. They would have to stretch them too, which would result in an unacceptable loss of picture quality. Heh heh. Actually, I was picturing that they might have to cut two thin strips from each side (or from at least one of the sides). I remember trying to do the math for a few seconds before giving up :-) |

My point is the directors think that this format is wonderful, and the rest of us that watches it do not. My point was it is annoying to buy a 61" TV, then loose have the picture. Fortunately for you, there's an easy solution: only buy DVDs that present in the 16:9 aspect ratio (and say "enhanced for widescreen TVs" on the back). Then your screen will always be full. ================================= That is not true in any way. "Enhanced for Widescreen" means that it will have more resolution on a 16:9 screen. It does NOT change the aspect ratio. Most 2.35:1 movies today are enhanced for widescreen and are still 2.35:1 and have bars top and bottom - as they should. if "enhanced for widescreen" movies all fill your screen, they your settings are incorrect. ====================================== |
