HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray -- Who's Winning?

Good plan. If there's one multi-format player there will be others. -- Dave Oldridge+ ICQ 1800667 That's what I'm hoping for. Just as the early days of DVD players and recorders, things come out at high prices and eventually come down. I think if either, or both, formats want to gain acceptance, the hardware manufacturers will have to start working on reducing prices much faster than in the past. I noticed just today, that my local Blockbuster has a few new releases on Blue Ray. And that's after the manager had told me recently that they would not be carrying movies in either format for quite a while yet. But, given the area I live in and knowing the average income, even if Blockbuster rents them at the same price as regular DVD's, there will not be that many people running out and getting a BlueRay player. People around here gripe about the cheapo WalMart dvd players. I can only imagine how some feel about the HD-DVD and BlueRay stuff. ( currently our local WalMarts only carry RCA HD-DVD players at $500.00 each) And the manager in the Electronics Dept at the store told me he has sold exactly two of them since they started selling them. The rest of their inventory is sitting in the storeroom. No one wants one that won't record at that price. ( and I don't either and I want it dual format when I do get one) Maybe, that will start to happen as more of them remain unsold. james |

I decided to opt out on the PS3 because I didn't want to commit to the Blu-Ray format. I assume that some of the problems with PS3 sales has to do with the format war. I stopped at BB last night on the way home and looked at the LGDR787T. The box says Digital Tunner so it must be ATSC. I didn't pick one up (they had 3) because my MP3 player needs updating first. Also I can tape OTA DTV with my samsung SIR-T151 STB and a VCR. Not great PQ but it works. (I see BB has a MP3 (NS-DVB4G)with Btooth which is what I have been waiting for. The DVD-R with ATSC will have to wait) |
