Adding Subwoofer to HDTV

I just bought my HDTV (Vizio 37" LCD at Costco). I have HDTV from my
cable box and am very pleased. I'm thinking of pluggin in a self-powered
PC subwoofer I already own into the audio output on the back of the TV
to obtain better bass. Has anyone already done this? Would the built-in
TV speakers still work? Will I be able to control the subwoofer's volume
with the remote? Any insights will be most appreciated. TIA!
All the best,
Ben

No prpblem.
I also got a VX37L from Costco 10 days ago for $900 and a few days later
noticed
that the price dropped $100. Though the set is no longer on display at the
local CostCo they gave me back the difference + tax. I connect my analog
cable via VCR to the composite input, my DVD player through component input,
my HiFi incl. subwoofer to the analog audio output and a small bowtie antenna
to the coax
input. I also bought a Radio Shack in-line amplifier for $36 for the antenna.
It is awesome, I get about 30 digital channels with the antenna of which 10
are HD. I am very pleased.

I guess you have a remote control on that external amplifier?
The OP needs a variable level audio output to connect to an amplified
sub. Check if the audio output can be changed in the menu between
fixed and variable. Otherwise, it is normally a fixed level output
that will not follow the remote controlled TV sound level.

I hooked it up last night and it works like a charm. I get sound from my
built in speakers, and the subwoofer does make a huge difference.
Also, the volume of the analog audio output follows the remote control.
Sweet!
Thanks,
Ben
