HDTV formats over the air and via cable

I get my HD stations over the air with a bowtie antenna. The formats are
1080i, 720p and 480i. What formats are available with cable and satellite?
The native format of my 37" set is 720p, I saw more expensive sets with 1080p
native resolution. Would a 1080i stream look better on a 1080p set than on a
720p set? If you have answers please post them.

Set your cable box for 720p out and all HD will look ok on your set. 1080i looks a little fuzzy because it has to be converted for the 720 format of your set. Some channels are in 1080 but 720 will look the best on your tv.

I can't answer for Cable, but DirecTV broadcasts in 1080i for it's HD
programming. I doubt 1080P will ever be broadcast, because of bandwidth
issues. I don't think most people will know the difference anyways.

I think you read his statement wrong. I don't think he has Cable nor
Satellite.

480i, 720p, and 1080i.

Perhaps. It depends on the stream, and where you stand. From most viewing
positions, it probably would matter little, if at all.

I cant's speak for satellite, but cable offers 1080i,720p,480p,480i

In theory, it should look better, but also keep in mind the TV has to
convert the 1080i to 1080p. Just like your tv has to convert the 1080i
to 720p. But in my opinion I think because of the extra lines in
resolution, a 1080i signal will look better on a 1080p tv. Most 37"
tv's like yours has a native resolution of 720, ( the actual number is
like 768 or so). Usually 1080p TV's are for like 42" or larger.
