Considering the junk they stock and call air conditioners, it's not
surprising.

Costco tightens its return policy

But, the point is, people buying things and intentionally returning them
when they are not defective
simply to get them thru some event , wheather it's a weekend party, or
summer heat or whatever,
they are taking back fully functional items that they knew from the start
that they had no intention of
keeping. It matters not what retailer they do it to, it is still wrong. And
it ends up making the honest
consumer pay for their inconsiderate behavior. Whenever the retailer
resells the items at a loss (compared
to the original sale price) someone down the line will make up the
difference. My cousin bought a
returned Dewalt Sliding compound Miter saw from Lowes just last week that
someone returned, AFTER
using it for a few days. The saw blade had rub marks and it had paint
splattered on it. It was a $500.00
saw and he ended up getting it for $75.00 and it worked perfectly. The
person in the tool department
told him the story and said that the guy insisted that it was "defective"
and he wanted his money back.
He raised so much cain over it that they gave him his full $500.00 plus tax
back, in cash. And then had
to set it in the as-is section and price it at $75.00. They probably could
have asked more, but, with all the
paint on it it didn't look that good. My cousin cleaned it up and it looks
brand new now. (which it really is)
To me things like that are fine for the guy like my cousin since he got a
bargin, but, it's a shame for the
retailer since at some point they will stop that sort of thing and then when
someone comes in with a
legitmate complaint, they won't take it back. Or they just raise prices
over time to cover the losses from
inconsiderate idiots like the one that returned the perfectly working saw.
