480i or 480p ???

I have a plasma 50" Samsung that is super at HD and just awful at non-HD
channels. Theoretically, for non-HD channels should I default to 480i or
480p? And would "stretching" affect one more than another?
-thanks

It probably would not matter what you input into your TV. The TV will
convert the picture to whatever it's native resolution is, which I'm
assuming is 720 or 1080. Now your STB might do a better job at scaling
the resolution of the signal, you would have to try and see. But for
the most part it is the norm for SD pictures to look bad on an HDTV.
