Well, you may be right, but the nearest transmitter is 9.6 miles away and
when I go to http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx and plug in my
location with a 40 ft. mast, that's the only ATSC channel available to me
using a 'purple' coded antenna (eg: large directional array with amplifier).

Don't be so sure. I live in the heart of San Francisco, and am able to
pick up every one of the ATSC channels from the two nearest broadcast
towers.

I forgot to add ". . . with a $20 indoor antenna."

Try out some rabbit ears with a little UFH loop and see what happens...you
may be very surprised.
