Newbie can't figure how to turn speaker amp with HDTV

Hi Guys

I am a newbie muddling through an installation of a new Panasonic
Th-50PH9UK. I plan to connect two different sets op speakers ( A & B)
one for TV viewing and a different set for music. To save money, I
want to power this with an older stereo (amp, pre-amp and tuner).

However. I don't know how to have the stereo amp come on automatically
at the same time as when I remotely turn on the TV. God forbid that I
get out of my La-Z-boy and hit the power switch..Has someone already
invented this particular wheel?

Thanks

Scott

I just got this:

http://www.smarthome.com/1168.html

I use it mostly for Christmas lights but have had good luck with X10
products. The light modules also dim. I got my first starter set at
Radio Shack a few years back and they may still have something in stock.

I use X-10 keypads and X-10 controller for lights, subwoofer, and fan(s) or
humidifier (in winter), even an analog radio for that "someone's home"
sound. However, I'm also looking at something like a Harmony remote to
replace 8 remotes in the LR. With Harmony (and selected others) you program
an activity like "watch DVD" and the remote turns on receiver, the screen,
and the player with buttons programmed with control settings for each device
in current use. These smart remote are often tauted as "marriage savers".

YMMV
