Another channel to avoid

What do the adverts look like? -- A lot of channels using onscreen text to promote upcoming shows or episodes. SKY1 has been known to do this and it seems to becoming the norm on SKY2. E4 do this a lot as well as many of the documentary channels and truth be told it is not an uncommon method of promoting in-house content. The next step is actually graphics including animations that pop up at random intervals this is done all the time on the scifi channel. It is possible not to have seen them but since they are hard encoded into the broadcast watching live or via SKY+/TVDrive makes no difference. Mike C |

Even the people who say they ignore it or it does'nt bother them would have problems seeing about a square inch of program on the screen! |

I unfortunately am hyper-sensitive to these messages and have to rigidly filter my viewing against such graffiti. The TV industry has so far failed to publish any kind of psychological or perception studies on how DOGs work and to what extent they impact people. There are two possibilities: A - The industry knows what DOGs do and how they effect peoples minds and does so deliberately. B - The industry does not know what DOGs do and does not know how they effect peoples minds and does so naively or negligently. Personally I think it is B which is why logofreetv.org can't flush any one out in to the open to talk publicly about this. You'd think in an age of science, we could scientifically and absolutely state what the affect of on-screen logos on the public specifically would be? |

Small and almost transparent tasteful dogs do soon blend into the background for most people . Its the in your face ram it down your throat dogs that are the problem . Since 24 finished on sky three a couple of weeks ago i havent watched sky three since as any time i've been flicking through the channels there always seems to be some sort of promo plug text logo at the top right hand corner of the screen - wouldnt mind so much if it was for a program that seemed interesting - but it always seems to be for some ****e program most people go out their way to avoid . Another thing sky three does is stuff like 'non stop cold case' and thats just as bad as a text promo plug for a ****e program . While i like cold case - i regard being told theres several episodes being shown back to back as insult and in general refuse point blank to watch anything that has a text promo plug at the top right hand corner on principal even if its a show like cold case . -- www.phptakeaway.co.uk (work in progress) |

I see perfectly well, and drive very well thank you very much, certainly above the standard required for my job, and my observations where commented on favourably by the police driving instructor who took me for a week long course before starting work. The onscreen displays are just something that doesn`t register with me for whatever reason - there are other people like me out there. When I`m watching TV I`m relaxing and enjoying myself, so presumably any little details that aren`t needed aren`t registering. When I`m driving, or indeed doing anything else that requires more concentration and observation there isn`t a problem. Because it's not possible. When someone speaks it's natural to look at the face of the person speaking. The on-screen adverts and branding material often obscures parts of people's faces while they are talking, so there would be no way not to see them if you were actually watching TV at the time rather than just having it on in the background while you do something else. So your entire evidence for your position is something that you think. Presumably you`ve got a PhD in a relevant subject, or at least a masters degree - yes? Or maybe you can cite a number of peer reviewed papers that support your position?
