So here is what Sky is going to force onto my decoder...

http://anytime.sky.com/about/tv.aspx

Sky's pick of the best TV programmes, updated daily
Top quality movies to enjoy on a quiet night in
Episodes from top shows like Lost and Weeds
A great choice of kids' shows
Hidden gems that you might not have otherwise seen
Choose from up to 40 hours of TV

I still fail to see the point of this. I am not going to have someone
else tell me what I want to watch. I'll record what I want - I very
much doubt that Sky's 'suggestions' will tally up with my usual
viewing.

I'm puzzled about this as well. If I have a Sky+ box, then surely I will
have already recorded the shows that I want to watch in the first place?
The only advantage to Sky Anytime will be if the porgrammes are shown
without adverts. Do you think that's likely? No... didn't think so...

There will be shows that might not be in your subs package - the odd episode
or movie hoping it will convince you to upgrade.

If will record in idle time to the unused part of the HDD that sky reserve.
So ignore it and you have lost nothing.

I sort of think this is a silly idea as when I go to bed at night I put on
what I want to record anyway but if they are going to put stuff on to record
that I am not subscribed to then great I don't mind. If they don't do this
then what is the idea of sky+ if the are going to download stuff for you
stupid, lets wait and see

MMmm, Suppose we've set two channels to record at the same time, Sky
offering we don't want works and the programme we've set to record fails?
Time for a switch to kill the HD from recording when we don't want it to
now!

It is almost certain that the On Demand content will only record when it
does not clash with a scheduled record.

I would have assumed that the On Demand content would be 'downloaded' to the
drive so it wouldn't stop any recordings taking place. The Sky+ can do
*that* without any help ;-)

Either that or there's a hidden tuner in there?

How do you mean "downloaded"? It is certainly via the satellite rather than
the modem - so it will still need one of the two tuners to be free.

You will when what they want you to watch clashes with something you
wanted to watch. Expect to hear about lots of "mistakes" happening
that just happen to generate extra income for Sky. You will also have
to pay for the extra electricity it will use recording things you
don't want to watch.

paranoia in action....better get that tinfoil hat on quick incase the Sky
satellite transmissions start to control you..though given your hatred of
Sky I'm surprised you have it.
