Sky Auto Standby and other 'innovations'

Are you absolutely certain about this? I ask because I find that If the channel I'm watching is "skipping" (see very long Digital Spy thread if you want to read more about this), in most instances, the skipping will stop if I put the box into standby for a few seconds then switch it on again, unless the problem is due to a marginal power supply inadequacy switching into standby surely does more than you are suggesting. Have you unplugged the box? Putting it into standby won't cure little problems like that, but, for example, when my Panny Sky box used to 'lose' the ability to do 888 subtitles unplugging it for 10 seconds would sort that out (the problem got worse and worse over time, happening more often, and I replaced it with a Pace box recently). Standby made no difference. |

No, it isn't. The planet is warming up and this is starting to have a dramatic effect on the climate, and it is just the beginning. The main cause of global warming is mankind, and his excessive consumption of energy of all types. No, the main cause of global warming is down to the way the Earth behaves and 'Mother Nature'. Mankind accounts for approx 3% of global warming. The planet is heating up at the moment, but another 100-150 years down the line and the opposite will be happening. Then another 100-150 years and it heats up again, and so on goes the cycle. Something has to be done. I personally would vote for culling of 90% of the human population. Spanish flu and anthrax could save the planet. Nothing will 'save' the planet because it doesn't need saving. It's doing what it does and the politicians are peddling a bunch of easy answers which you've sucked up. Sadly this is unlikely to happen so the next best thing is massive taxes on fuel/energy. If electricity cost 10 times what it does then more people would remember to turn things off. That wouldn't happen and things still need power. You can't turn off a fridge or freezer. I wouldn't want to turn off my PC and no politician should be telling me what to do. I'll turn off what I want to turn off. I wouldn't tell them, you or anyone else what they must do. And for those who would say that this hits the poor and elderly more than the rich, how about a sliding scale: the first x kw of energy (electricity, gas, oil) your house uses could be charged at cost and all the rest at 20 times cost. Or charge all of it at 20 times cost and give all households a token for a normal amount free. You really have got sucked in to all the environmental bull****. |

You're wrong I'm afraid - only yesterday evening I "cured" the sound skipping on Eurosport by simply switching to standby and out again a few seconds later - I've done it so many times now that it can't be coincidence. This only works on the channels that only occasionally "skip". Have I unplugged the box?!?!?!? Have you sen the digital spy thread on the problem? The only things I haven't done are reformatting and putting the original drive back in the box - both will be tried once I've emptied the drive. |

I've not had the sound skipping problem, but used to get the sound on ITV(1) being out of sync with the picture a few years back, due to their failing error correction (sadly that wouldn't correct the errors made by the programme controller!) so had to change channels and back again (which wasn't an option if I was recording said programme to keep). Hasn't happened in some time though. |
