HD Newbie (UK)!
Hello
I'm about to jump into the world of owning a LCD HD TV. I won't be subscribing to the Sky HD service until the cost comes down and the content goes up ! So initially I will be using : * standard Sky+ digital service (SCART connection) * Cheapo DVD recorder (SCART connection) - http://tinyurl.com/y6ggtg * Playstation 2 (Audio L/R, CVBS) ?? The TV I'm plumping for is the Philips 42PF7621D/10 - http://tinyurl.com/u3g9q Are there any basic tips that anyone can give with regard to tweaking connections / settings to give optimum results for my non-HD sources ? Also was wondering if getting the Philips DVDR3400/05 - http://tinyurl.com/y348u6 would provide any benefits. I note it has a HDMI connection and am wondering if that would provide a better quality image when playing standard DVD's ? Thanks |

I reckon they'll be doing the boxes for 150 quid by Christmas 2007, and hopefully they might reduce overall subscription charges if taking up their broadband offering at the same time ? |

They're offering satellite internet access? That hasn't been working very well here in the U.S . . . .afaik. Does your satellite company offer a HDTV Digital Video Recorder? |

They're offering satellite internet access? That hasn't been working very well here in the U.S . . . .afaik. Not satellite access but deregulation of comms companies have allowed the world and his dog to be a provider other than the core comms companies themselves (i.e. British Telecom). Sky are expanding their own coverage of their ADSL broadband service over the country proposing up to 16Mb access for considerably less cost than BT's slower service. http://broadband.sky.com/ Does your satellite company offer a HDTV Digital Video Recorder? Assume you mean Sky HD. It's a HD receiver with a Hard Drive capacity for recording 80 hours SD or 30 hours HD. Cost at the moment is 300 pounds for the box and an additional 10ukp per month subscription, (this would put my monthly subscription to 63 pounds in total !). In this is included 10 pounds per month they charge for the privilege to simply use the recording capabilities of the box ! http://sky.com/hd/ |

Just be aware that DNM (Digital Natural Motion) that "produces smooth, judder free images" only works on SD signals. (None of the current Philips models can apply that on HD signals. That kind of processing is OTOH very rare in the market even for SD.) /Jan |
