Have Discovery macrovisioned some of their channels?

Up until very recently, I've been able to record them via my Lite-On DVD
recorder, but now when I try I get a 'protected content' message.

I can still record all the other channels I've tried, so ISTM it must be
something specific about them (Sky Ch.520-523).

Is the flight one a discovery channel? I used to have problems with it
when I had a Sharp DVD recorder, it kept coming up encrypted. I have
changed both recorder and sky box since then but it did allow me to
record once I got rid of the sharp or swapped the sky box, can't
recall which. Does it sometimes allow you to record for a short time
then tell you it's protected?

I'm doing a test record, using an -RW as I used to when recordings
failed on Wings. I did a ten second or so record on each of the disc
channels and they didn't object, so I'll let them go for about five
minutes or so and see what happens.

There seems to be a bug under which usually a few (but sometimes many)
channels appear protected.
Some have fixed it by a simple power off/on, others by a new card, others by
a macrovision removing scart.

Not sure, but I don't watch that one.

Yes, it's done that once or twice. I've even tried starting the
recording on another channel then switching, but that doesn't fool it.

Hadn't thought of power-cycling the Sky box - will try that.

I wish i could recall which it was, whether it was the dvd, the box or
both, as i replaced both around the same time.... Ah, I posted this
back then

"Well, I decided I had had enough of flickery picture so am returning
the Sharp dvdr/vhs and have now got a Panasonic. I tested Discovery
wings first chance I got and recording for longer than seven minutes
was done without a glitch. I'll have to try for a little longer when I
have a spare minute but it looks as if the problem was between the
sharp and my digibox."

That worked on my Panny over Christmas when it decided that Channel 4
was Macrovisioned.

It didn't work in my case, though.

I'm beginning to think it may be a dodgy scart though, as I could record
the problem channels on my old VCR.

DVD and VHS are not the same in this. You can record from the Pay as
you watch channels with a vcr but not with a dvd from what I've heard
and what you're experiencing is very similar. That doesn't mean it
isn't the scart though.
