Panasonic TH-42PX6U
Is this model any good? Or is it an older model? For $1200 at Wallmart it
seems like a good deal. I would be using it for a bedroom so the viewing distance would be about 8'-12'. I got Comcast with expanded basic at the moment and would be using it without any boxes or converters. |

I have a Panasonic 32" LCD, 768x1366 pixels, and I love it.
With that said, I'm a bit put off by most plasma in the 40-50" range. Look at the box to see how many pixels wide it is. Hmmm, that information is noticably absent on most boxes. I had to go online to find that it's only 1024 pixels wide. Now, the definition of HDTV is 720 pixels high. This TV (1024x768) meets that definition. However, by my standard, HDTV should also be at least 1280 pixels wide (720 x 16 / 9), so this TV is missing about 20%. For many, 1024 pixels wide is Hi-Def, for me it's almost-but-not-quite-HD. I also found that my OTA signal is slightly better quality than Comcast's so the Comcast signal may match the 1024 pixels just fine. |

Just go look at one at the store .. they are excellent TV's. CC or Best
Buy, Wal Mart .. they should have them there. Plasma's are the best if you watch sports and movies. "NadCixelsyd" wrote in message ups.com... It is the same screen as the 42PX60U and higher end 42PX600U models. The 42PX6U lacks the SD card slot (for displaying photo slide shows) which the 42PX60U has. Otherwise, I think the 42PX6U and 42PX60U are the same. The 42PX6U is aimed at Costco and other lower end chains. It is a very good buy at that price. The 42PX6U does come with a ATSC tuner for over the air digital TV reception and a QAM tuner which can be used to receive the unscrambled digital HD channels on cable. For most cable systems, the only unscrambled digital HD channels are the local broadcast stations. The rest - ESPN-HD, TNT-HD, Discovery HD, and so on are scrambled and for you would require a HD cable box to receive. If you do get the Panasonic, do a digital channel scan for the Comcast connection for starters. That should turn up the broadcast local stations HD and SD sub-channels. If you do not want a cable box or for fun, hook up an antenna to get your local station's digital HD and SD broadcasts. Alan F |
