What to do when new box arrives.

I've ordered a new Sky+ box at a very good price and it should arrive in
the next day or so.

What do I do when it arrives, just plug the existing card in ?

Or do I need to call Sky and have them marry it to the box ?

TIA

Do you already have Sky+?

If so, you need to put the card in to the new box (after connecting it all
up), do a software upgrade and then go into the installers menu (Services -
4 - 0 - 1 - Select) and select the 'New installation' menu. The box will
need to be conencted to a phone line when you do this.

When this is complete, you then phone Sky up, and make sure you tell them
you need your viewing card paired to a new Sky+ box.

If you don't already have Sky+, all the above applies, but remember that
Sky+ needs two feeds from the dish.

Yes. Been working here for years, but the hard disk went tits up.

Phone line is not possible - I'm not in the UK :)

Won't this already have been donw by the supplier store ?

When this is complete, you then phone Sky up, and make sure you tell them
you need your viewing card paired to a new Sky+ box.

Thanks

I think Sky may refuse to pair the card to the box unless they've seen a
successful callback from the box. I'm not sure if the information sent to
Sky during a callback includes the viewing card details.

Only way to find out is to try it. Plug it all in, switch the cards over and
phone them up.

You could try telling them you don't have a landline?

Would be interested in hearing the outcome.

No! - Sky can and will do a pairing if you read them the contents of the
"System Information" screen (which is what the callback details seem to be).
While this screen includes the Viewing Card details (which they need to do a
callback) on a telephone call they will already know this from the
subscription details.

If phoning from abroad it used to be vital not to get the phone call
flagged up as "International" to Sky....but I presume that people know how
to do this now!

Yes, I did his before to check that the problem wasn't the card as
suggested by Jomtien - no problem.

Yes, that's what I did - see other reply.

Would be interested in hearing the outcome.

Will advise when the box arrives.

Ok. I'm sure I read someone advising that they'd had Sky refuse to pair a
card because the box hadn't done a callback...

It still seems very odd that a new drive and/or firmware reload didn't
fix the old one.

As I mentioned in a previous reply, you will have to do more than just
put the card in. The box and card will need to be married. Sky will
refuse to activate new cards in Sky+ boxes (and HD boxes) unless the
phone is connected. Luckily yours is not a new card so you should be
able to do it with just a voice call to Sky.

Remember to set the new box to RGB, W/S, icon time-out, instant pause,
etc.

I tried with 1 disk that I borrowed but it wuldn't boot at all. Didn't
want to buy a brand new disk, mainly because we have had a couple of
unexplained glitches in the box since the disk went out and I think the
whole thing is just getting past it.

Thanks, I'll note all the existing settings before I disconnect the old
box...
