Problem with Sky+ box

Sky can reset this if you call them. Well I'll try again, but how do I persuade them to do it today when they wouldn't do it yesterday ? Ring the dedicated Sky+ number. Yes I know that, that's what I did Friday. But despite asking them nicely they wouldn't do it. Are there some magic words I can use that will persuade them ? |

PS I don't understand the mechanism of how the card could lose its Sky+ authorisation. Can the box write to the card ? That's the only way I can see it happening as my boxes are not connected to a phone line, so no way can the card number have been sent back to Sky HQ. |

I'm not sure myself how this happens but I've seen it happen twice so I know that it does. It certainly seems that the Sky+ function authorisation functions in a very different way to the regular channel authorisation. Of course the box can write to the card. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Now why didn't I think of that ! :) Didn't need to resort to that, they paired it up again and still doesn't work. :( So, it's a new box for me - I thought about just swapping in a new disk, but the box is 3 years old and it's been turnng itself off every couple of days apart from the disk problem, so I think it's time to go... Thanks again for all your help Jomtien. |

I would definitely try another drive in it before buying a new box. You can get a new drive very cheaply even if you don't just have an old one laying around and it is a doddle to fit. Odd though: the last time I checked my Sky+ wouldn't boot up without a working drive. Maybe they have changed this part of the firmware again. (Thinks: perhaps I can now pull that stupid 8Gb drive that is in my V1 Sky+, put there just to make it boot and wasting electricity every day ever since. Time to get the screwdriver out.) -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. I found someone in the village who had a spare drive and we fitted it. It seemed to spin up, but the box wouldn't start up. Same with no drive in at all. When I put the suspected-bad drive back in the box booted, but still no record functions. I am trying to fnd some other expat around here who has a British Sky+ box so I can check my viewing card - is there any problem with switching a viewing card between boxes ? I will also try their card in my box too. Any idea whether or not my UK card would work in an Italian Sky+ box (known as MySky over here) ? The box looks identical, but the software might screw things up ??? |

Put your current drive into a PC and run the manufacturer's test programme on it to see if it is faulty.
