Curious in America !

What U.S. stations if any, does your "skynet" get?

any opinions ? favorites ?

I have "Dishnet" here.

USED to have LOTS of channels but had to cut back.

But when I did...all I had "from you", sort of, was "BBC America".

Not THAT much of a fan of your newer shows.....I like the
classics...........

"Being Served"......"Keeping Up Appearances"...."The Dave something
Show" ..............................

(Irish guy used to sit on a stool, smoke, and do monologs)....plus a
bunch i'm forgetting at the moment.....

(Python, of course, too.)

Tony
From America.

I read somewhere that in America they always used to censor the end of
the Benny Hill show where he catches the girls and rips all their
clothes off. Is that true?

Cruel sod! :O)

you really think so? I don't mind reading Gorman's books but in his
prime Allen was amazing... and a reasonable actor too.

@k70g2000cwa.googlegroups.com:

What U.S. stations if any, does your "skynet" get?

There are no US stations broadcast to the UK apart from European versions
of CNN CNBC & Bloomberg that I know of.
There are a number of channels that have primarily American backers eg
the Disney Channels, Paramount Comedy, the Discovery Channels etc.

For a full list of channels available through the Sky package with
current programmes see
http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/tvlistings
or more easily on www.onthebox.com

Sky is the only comprehensive English language satellite pay-tv package
in the UK / Ireland - for an idea how the service is parcelled up and
paid for go to www.sky.com and pretend that you are a new customer
who wants to sign up for a new service.

If you wander through the listings you will see that a number of channels
carry a large number of USA shows, the more mainstream channels (BBC 1,
2, 3, 4, ITV1, 2, 3, 4, Channel 4 ) less so. Channel 5 carries a number
of USA crime shows particularly on a Saturday evening - and in my view
these (CSI & L&O) are the only ones worth watching. By and large american
television, particularly the comedy is rubbish!

Ooops forgot Fox news! (well it *claims* to be american - surely it's not
for real?)

They may have the same name as US channels, but they're not the same
feed. Whereas if you watch Fox News in the UK then you're seeing
exactly what a US viewer would see. (Apart from commercials, anyway).

Good God !!!..........( as James Brown might yell ! )

I am OVERWHELMED by your many responses !

Thanks very much !!!

Fox News eh?

I'll bet Bill O'Reilly goes over well there !!!

"Dave Allen at Large" right ?
always the drink and smoke in hand, sitting on the stool....loved his
monologs....the sketches were a bit "hokey" though !

(sorry ....not familiar with Gorman !)

I first saw Benny (God rest his Soul) on what we call Public TV....WAY
back in my late teen years (I'm 49)......NO !!! .....we WERE INDEED
treated to the brazzieres and garters in Chicago as well !!!

(On the other hand a "Bible Belt" TV station , say in Mississippi,
MIGHT censor....A LOT more than what someone in NYC or LA, or
Chicago.....sees !!!)

I also remember circa ' 74 '75, me and my brother looking SO FORWARD to
Monty Python (reruns) every Sunday night !!!

(Also on "Public TV")

God I'd laugh so hard (at Python) it was all I could do not to **** my
pants !!!
(excuse the vulgarity.)

I probably missed some posted responses....but thanks again for the
links and feedback.

Such a load of rubbish that the English are cold and reserved !!!

(We ALL KNOW.....that's the GERMANS !!!) (HAH HAH HAH HAH !!!)

I suppose I can be forgiven for not responding to EACH and EVERY POST
on this subject !!!

It's not like this board is some sort of Spanish Inquisition or
something ! (?)

Chicago Tony

OH YEAH....another show that MESSED with my HEAD and OPENED my EYES as
a lad, was ..................................
"The Prisoner" !!!

Is Patrick Mcgoohan still alive ?
