Sky+ box phone connection broken
Hi,
My Sky+ box appears to have been damaged during the severe weather this morning. My phone stopped working, and until I unplugged my Sky+ box I couldn't get a dial tone. I replaced the phone, cable and ADSL filter with ones I have lying around and which are known to be working, and the fault remains, so it looks like it is the modem part of the Sky+ box which is causing the phone problems. The rest of the box works fine, but if I plug in the phone line it stops my phone/ADSL working, and none of the interactive services recognise that it is connected to a phone line. Anyway, rang CS and initially got fobbed off with CLI and REN red herrings, but they spoke to a technical person who agreed the box was probably at fault, so they arranged a callout on Tuesday (impressively soon, so no complaints there). So, I have two questions (CS were vague): (1) Will they just replace the box or will they try and fix it? (2) If they replace it, will it be a new or reconditioned box? (3) Will they take the old box away? Thanks in advance, Al Reynolds |

If not you don't need the phone connection anyway......unless you need interactive services for some reason. Hope you're getting the call out for free. |

(3) Will they take the old box away? Yes. (4) Why do you leave things connected to the phone during bad weather? Just unplug them. (5) Why bother replacing the box at all? The phone connection serves no purpose unless you have multiroom. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. As a pensioner with limited funds , I am thinking of going to Sky for
digital TV . My question is do I need a phone line close to the TV to recieve this service. After reading this thread it would appear not, contrary to what I thought. Thanks for any response Fred "Al Reynolds" wrote in message ... Hi, My Sky+ box appears to have been damaged during the severe weather this morning. Hi,

After reading this thread it would appear not, contrary to what I thought. If you get a 'subsidised' box (generally one direct from Sky) then the contract requires it to be connected to a telephone for 12 months. However, unless you have multiroom, this isn't policed. Hi,
In article , Fred wrote: Thanks for your prompt reply Andy, probably means Im going to have to run a telephone line to the TV. No problem. If you're getting a Sky 'package' it'll need to be connected to the phone to do its callback during the installation. After that though, it shouldn't be a problem to disconnect it, so you might want to consider just an extension cable from an existing socket for use during the installation. Andy |

After reading this thread it would appear not, contrary to what I thought Thanks for any response Fred Fred, first of all, if you have limited funds, Sky doesn't seem like a good choice, especially if you are thinking of getting a Sky+ box, because you will be spending about £30/month. So, did you mean to post on a thread marked 'Sky+' to start with? Second, with limited funds, why are you thinking of going with Sky? What is it you want that you cant get from other sources, such as freeview via your aerial? -- Tumbleweed email replies not necessary but to contact use; tumbleweednews at hotmail dot com |

I was out during the storm, so I couldn't disconnect it. Al |
