Sony XBR3
The new XBR's say 1920 x 1080 pixels. My question is does the XBR do
1080p or convert a 1080p signal to 1080i? TIA, Dan |

I don't think there are any 1080p signals yet. Requires too much bandwidth. -- Bearman If it's got tits, tires, tubes, or transistors, it's trouble. |

AFAIK, all plasma, LCD, DLP are progressive display. The popluar commercial film scanners (Spirit, C-Reality, Millenium, Nova) are progressive scan and create 'interlace' by sending out the lines out of order -- the odd-numbered then the evens. The film is scanned 1080p24. Adding the 3:2 sequencing brings it to 1080i60. If the 3:2 flag is available, re-creating 1080p24 is easy. Only CRTs actually 'scan' the image onto the screen. GG |

I believe that a computer can output a 1080P signal such a display...and I think the XBOX 360 can also take advantage of this resolution. Bob |

Anything more than that is just repeated frames. Now there _is_ IMAX film that is shot 70mm 60 FPS and THAT would look simply amazing. GG |
