You're unlikely to find any device that converts DVI digital to either component or VGA (essentially RGBHV). Inexpensive DVI-VGA adapters don't do that. They make use of the fact that the DVI spec allows for analog RGB on certain pins of the DVI connector (the 4 pins on either side of the flat blade). They only work if the source device uses those pins. Some (maybe most) PC video cards do; most other devices (digital receivers, upconverting DVD players, etc.) do not. Since you're coming from a PC, such an adapter might work for you. Try to get one cheap or borrow one from a friend if possible. How would you connect your computer to a monitor with only a VGA input? The bigger problem is the 15 meter cable. That's a bit far for either analog or digital, but I'd sooner trust digital. Analog might give a degraded image, but digital would either work or not. The right way to do it is to convert to fiber and back again at each end. And yes, it's expensive. A 15 meter cable might run US$400-$500. But MonoPrice, often recommended for low-priced cables, has a couple of 50 foot DVI-HDMI copper cables. The cheapest is about $67. Don't know if they ship to the UK. Here's a link: http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10231&style= Other solutions include moving the computer closer to the TV or using it as a server with some multimedia device (or another computer) close to the TV pulling video files from it. From what Ive read, you'll be much better off using the VGA connector or getting a DVIHDMI adapter. http://www.microbarn.com/KVM_Cables_...40-101323.html http://www.microbarn.com/Cable_Adapt...60-100093.html -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |
