Top Up TV Is Changing / Top Up Active
Logical channel 107, Top Up Active, on freeview proudly announces that
Top-Up-TV previously known as Tits-Up-TV is changing. But not by much I think because once the MHEG graphics have downloaded the information appears as white text on a pale yellow background which I find completely unreadable. Perhaps it is my eyes that are at fault. Has anyone managed to find out what this is all about? -- Richard Watkinson Treasurer Sheffield Folk Festival http://www.sheffieldfolkfestival.org/ Turn left where the chip shop used to be. |

I get white text on a bright yellow background, which is absoloutely ridiculous, virtually unreadable and certainly gives me eye strain. However I can just make it out: Top Up TV Anytime is the new, simple and affordable way to add a host of extra programmes to your Freeview* channels via the new Top Up TV Anytime Digital TV recorder - giving you more choice over what you watch and control over when you watch it. The Top Up TV Anytime Digital TV Recorder will be available in Autumn 2006. Want to find out more? ......Register now by calling 08700 543210 or visit www.topuptv.com |

The description suggests perhaps a PVR that only works with TUTV, unlike the one I've already got which can record more television than I have the time or inclination to watch from more than a dozen free channels. I can hardly contain my apathy. Rod. |

No doubt tied to a fairly long subscripion. Sylvain. Rod. |

The key point is that they are attempting to move some (perhaps most?) of their output to a download and view later model, in order to offset the loss of their bandwidth to Channel 5, who will use the space for new Freeview channels. That is what the new Anytime PVR is about. That and trying to revive a failed business plan. Everything else is speculation at this stage. |

Are TUTV making a profit?
I dont know of anyone who has a TUTV freeview box, never mind anyone who subscribes! squelch41 Sam Nelson wrote: In article , "Pyriform" writes: Sylvain VAN DER WALDE wrote: As a former TUTV subscriber, I did receive some info from them; but I have a bad memory recall. It would be a pity (and pretty dumb) if the service wasn't compatible with existing TUTV-compatible PVRs, with or without a firmware upgrade. |

From reading the numerous posts on digital spy forums re tits up "new" service there seems to be an opinion that new pvr's will be needed costing between 200 - 250 quid and that they will not be compatible with old tits up, subscription is supposed to be 10.99 a month. Probably curtains or tits up. |

As a current TUTV subscriber I have never had any info from them, but they still lift the £7.99 per month from my CC with monotonous regularity. What did they they send to you? I received an email from them, which also included a questionaire, giving one some idea of their future plans. My lack of interest at the time, and my dreadful memory recall, prevents me from giving you a useful answer. Sylvain. -- brightside |
