I would think that "how pleasant" it is would depend on the
display and remote control setup more than anything else. If I
hooked a MythTV box to a Sharp 37" Aquos, and handed you a
Logitech Harmony 880 remote, you'd find that an unpleasant
experience?

I can say it because I sit in front of a computer monitor a
great deal already. Sitting at a desk watching TV isn't my
bag.

Nobody said anything about sitting at a desk watching a
"computer montior".

I did.

I don't sit at a desk watching video on my
MythTV Linux box (something which is undoubtedly a computer). I
sit on the couch in my living room and use a remote just like
you would watching a movie on the same display connected to a
"non-computer" DVD player.

If you use a computer to send a signal to a 65" monitor so
that you can sit across the room and watch, I might be
interested but I don't consider that watching tv on a
computer.

Ah so the truth is that it's the _display_ that you're picky
about, not whether it's connected to a "computer" or a "dvd
player"?

Right.

If you've ever watched a DVD, you've done exactly that. What do you thinks
inside a dvd player? It's just another limited access computer.

Now that's foolish. You know very well what I mean.

Actually I didn't.

Neither did I. Apparently we're both "too ****ing stupid for
words".

I've got 3 MythTV computers aand I watch TV on all 3 at
different times. Only on one am I sitting at my desk, and I
don't watch much there either. The others I'm sitting or
laying somewhere else with a remote.

Do you have multiple backends running?

But are you watching it from that far back on a
computer monitor?

Or BIG TV?

No, but I thought that "thumper" [don't get me started on
people who don't use their real names on Usenet] was going on
about was "computer" vs. "DVD player" not "17 inch monitor" vs.
"60 inch monitor".

Or BIG TV?

TV? Yes. BIG? No.

I do use my real name in every post dopey.

I never said anything about computer vs DVD player.

One of these days I need to either by a firewire ATSC tuner or
upgrade to a box with more than one PCI slot and ad a PCHDTV
card...

And then I need to upgrad to higer speed wireless and set up a
front end only box. I've found I can watch recordings via my
homebrew player using 802.11B (NFS mounted recordings
directory), but running a frontend and using Myth's protocol is
way too much overhead.
