If you've ever watched a DVD, you've done exactly that. What do you thinks
inside a dvd player? It's just another limited access computer.

Now that's foolish. You know very well what I mean.

I can understand how this might be the case, but it depends on the computer
setup and personal preferences.

For me, when I watch a movie by myself, I prefer to use my computer (Power
Mac, dual G5) with 23" widescreen LCD screen (Apple 23" Cinema Display) and
headphones even though we have a HD widescreen plasma TV with a 5.1 audio
system and an upconverter DVD player. I have a very comfortable chair at my
computer. I am slightly far sighted but can keep my display about 30 " away,
which is a good focal range for me.

\While this set up works well for me, it is would not be worth the cost if
watching movies was the primary use.

YMMV - there are so many variables that no one should feel they can dictate
what is the "right" way.

How can you even say that without knowing how what display is
being used and how the system is set up??

I would think that "how pleasant" it is would depend on the
display and remote control setup more than anything else. If I
hooked a MythTV box to a Sharp 37" Aquos, and handed you a
Logitech Harmony 880 remote, you'd find that an unpleasant
experience?

No, we don't.

You seem to be claiming that given the same display, same
remote, same amp/speakers, watching a DVD that's being played
by a "computer" is unpleasant compared to a DVD that's being
played by something that's "not a computer".

I can say it because I sit in front of a computer monitor a great deal
already. Sitting at a desk watching TV isn't my bag. If you use a
computer to send a signal to a 65" monitor so that you can sit across
the room and watch, I might be interested but I don't consider that
watching tv on a computer.

Do you have trouble reading? I clearly said

I can't imagine sitting in front of a computer watching DVDs.

I didn't say I couldn't watch tv being fed by a computer although it
serves no useful purpose for me when I can simply feed it via STB.

What the hell difference does it make whether you're sitting in
front of a computer or in front of a DVD player. You don't
_watch_ the computer or the DVD player. You watch the display
to which both of them are connected.

I've no idea what point you're trying to argue, and I'm done
trying to figure out.

I tried downloading Knoppmyth, but I'm on Hughesnet (formerly

any site that will mail a CD of the file?

Send a buck to my paypal account and I'll send you both a Knoppmyth and
Mythdora cd. Assuming you're in the US. BTW, what's FAP?
