It's nearly free - you still have to pay the BBC tax.

Steve

No you don't.

Film4 is free independently of the BBC.

I think he means you have to pay a licence fee to the BBC to operate a
TV set whether or not you watch BBC. For details see

Mr Bollux is a loud-mouthed criminal who likes to brag about his crimes in

Oh, you mean a relatively unenforceable law that relies on the cooperation

You know full well it is free!

But totally pointless IMO until they start showing films in the correct
aspect ratio. Free or not, there's no way I'm watching cropped films.

It's true, you can now watch all the old films the other channels gave up
showing years ago for free :-)

The sad thing is that apart from watching Milla in the Fifth Element
there is nothing I want to watch. Film 4 seem to equate heavy, deep &
depressing with good.

Yes indeedy. The Guardian film and TV critics speak highly
of film4.

However, real film fans avoid it as they crop 2.35:1 films to fit a 16:9
screen.

And they break the films up with adverts too. My memory may be playing
tricks but I thought that when Film 4 started they made a fuss out of the
fact that they were a specialist film channel that respected their product
sufficiently to show it without any butchery. Now they're just the same as
any other TV channel with the exception of the single fact that they only
show one kind of programme.

Rod.
