I am disgusted that Film4 are now cropping films from 2.35:1 or
1.85:1 to 16:9.

What do you think about 4:3 programs being cropped to 16:9?

You gotta love widescreen, best thing since the plague.

I refuse to watch 4:3 programmes cropped to 16:9 too.

As long as Film4 crop films, I won't watch, free or not. Same goes for any
channel.

Well at least that shows some sense, if you are really that annoyed by it,
rather than just whining on here about it. I wonder if others that whine on
here whine also to the company in question or just assault our eyes with
their whining. Though personally I don't care if theres something I really
want to watch I will watch regardless of cropping or adverts. OK I usually
recoed things that have ads and then skip the ads.

Well I've thrown a couple of messages at sky about their onscreen
crap. I get an answer which although it seems personal basically says
they have researched these things and they're right. I write back to
them saying I disagree with that and if they listened to their
customers they would give them an option to turn stuff like that off
permanently. I have never got a second reply.

I refuse to watch 4:3 programmes cropped to 16:9 too.

Kind of limits your viewing choces somewhat, losing
50 years or so of broadcsting.

Why would that be? all widescreen tvs can display 4:3 pictures in 4:3

Not really as most 4:3 programmes aren't cropped to 16:9 they are
broadcast as they should be in 4:3.

But they cannot replace the bits chopped off when 4:3 footage is shown
on a program made in 16:9
