I'm wondering if it's worthwhile getting an antenna. My jury rigged
antenna right now is a coax cable with a vice grip clamped to the copper
wire. I can get CBC at 40% signal strength, I thought I could get CTV,
but no luck. I'm in Steveston, in an apartment facing north. That rules
out satellite, and I'll be damned if if fork over $450 to Shaw for their
HD cable box.

I'm in Chilliwack in a 2nd floor apartment. I have a decent amplified
UHF antenna and can get a pretty solid signal from channel 14 analog.
But there isn't a trace of anything digital here. Maybe in the next day
or so, I will try the antenna outside and see if that helps. You should
get the Bellingham stations really easily, as they are on Mt.
Constitution on Orcas Island and you can bloody well SEE them from
Steveston (though not from the north side of a building). I believe they
are on channels 19 and 35....I don't remember what they map to, though
one should probably be 12.2.

Did some fiddling and now have CBC peaking at 77% signal strength. I
watched a bit of The One in HD last night. Lousy show, but the picture
was awesome! CTV is only 6%, still not able to tune it in. I found some
great info on this forum:

I might get the Winegard Sqare Shooter antenna, about $100 ordered from
the U.S.

Are you aware of the laws that allow you to place a Sat Dish on your
private areas?
Like your deck, porch area, etc.

Don't see any problem there. The south side of our building has
satellite dishes on half of the balconies. The Square Shooter can also
be used as an indoor antenna if need be. The big question is will I be
able to pick up Fox and the other American networks? NFL season is not
too far away!
