No information on Humax EPG

I recently bought a Humax F2-FOX T and there doesn't appear to be any
additional information on the EPG. I also have a Samsung LCD TV with
integral digital tuner and the EPG contains a lot of information
on the programmes. Why is there no info on the Humax EPG?

Many thanks for your help

Ruth

What do you want apart from what you get when you press the i button?

This is a 'feature' of this particular box that Humax have promised to
fix for a long time. Evidently it hasn't got enough memory to store
both the 7 day EPG and the extra info relevant to each individual
programme.

If you switch the box off at the mains for a few seconds, you will
find that on powering up again you can get the extra 'i' info.
However this is only available until all 7 day info has been received
again (which takes quite a long time), then you're back to nothing
again.

The last theory / rumour I heard was that Humax were unable to fix
this problem due to lack of physical memory, however there might be an
option if one were to lose the inbuilt games.

I find it extremely poor for such an expensive box. Mine is now
crashing some 2 - 4 times per week. So much for a 'Which'
recommendation.

I had one for a while - simply took it back to Sainsbury's, no receipt,
and got a full refund.

Hi Graham

Many thanks for your help. After rebooting I now have some info when I press
the i button. From what you say, I'll have to do this every 7 days?
I won't be using the games at all, could you tell me how to get rid of them?

I am rather disappointed to hear all this about the Humax STB. As you say it
is not cheap and being recommended by "Which" I would have thought it would
be better than this. Having said that, I had an awful Phillips STB before
this one and the channels kept disappearing.

Thanks
Ruth

It will be much more frequent than that - daily at least I guess.

You cannot remove the games yourself it needs a software update

Their website states quite clearly:

'Extended information shows the full program information.'

The update was promissed Nov. 2005. It was then delayed to 'First
Quarter of 2006'. It is still not available.

Fiund this on the web, dated April 26 2006:

Latest from Humax ref synopses: We are still awaiting the release of
the software that will compress both the detailed information and
Program guide into the memory. I realise that this is taking some what
longer than expected. This is due to complications with the software.
I cannot give an official release date for this software until briefed
by our software developers. The software will need tested in the UK as
well. After this we would need to get a date from the BBC on their
Over the Air Schedule. At this point I believe the “Games option” is
being removed from this model to free up memory. I would suggest
checking www.humaxdigital.com HCSA Support download section on a
regular basis to get news and release notes when this software is
released for this model. Apologies for the delay.

There is no way it takes 10 months to solve this problem. I have that
old feeling that it will never arrive.
