I use 1080i for HD and override to 480p for SD. My TV handles this
automatically.

Question for Canadians on Star Choice

There is a door behind the "StarChoice" label on the front right.
To the left of the USB port is a red button. Pushing this will change
the mode (Mode is displayed) "0000" means native mode

I knew that. That's why my question is asking which mode to use.

good question
does it matter if your tv is 720 or 1080 (mine is 720)?
i run it at 0000 & let the tv convert.
is this right?

I'm not sure if the DSR500 can actually output 720p. It won't do it to my
TV, but then my TV cannot read 720p anyway.

For my TV, I force the output to 1080i and then in the setup menu, set the
SD override to 480p. That works just fine for me. I tried using 1080i for
everything, but I got some aliasing on SD sigs.

Question for Canadians on Star Choice

On the Sony HD CRT sets, the DRC (for SD signals) allows for 3 settings:
interlaced, progressive, & cinemotion. (3:2 pulldown).
I assume the interlaced is 1080i, but does anyone know whether the progressive
setting is 480p or 720p?
