Humax LGB17DTTV problems
I bought one of these a while back now and have been having occasional
problems ever since. 1 - On power up it sometimes doesn't fully switch on from stand by but just ends up with "No Signal" displayed. Only after another off/on cycle (from the remote) does it seem to work. I've seen messages elsewhere on here that deal with this problem so I'm going to try the suggestions made there to see if that fixes the problem (switch off the overnight update for those who haven't seen that post) and post over the weekend with my results. 2 - The reception of some channels (ITV, CH4, some Sky) is appalling on occasions but bearable on others with no obvious logic to explain the reason (weather, wind direction, sun spots etc! ). Other freeview boxes in the house (from the same aerial) are just fine so presumably the Humax is more fussy on it's signal quality/strength? I've seen post that suggest this has been resolved by a software update from Humax but I can't figure out where to get this from and don't appear to be able to download over-the-air. I've signed up at the Humax "hcsa" support website but all their download pages seem to refer to set-top boxes and not this TV model! It's a great product when it works and I don't want to have to take it back and deal with the assistants in Currys unless I absolutely have to... The picture quality is excellent most of the time apart from the annoying problems with reception - Does this sound familiar to anyone who might be able to assist me? Thanks in advance Richard http://www.onlinepriceguide.co.uk |

Thanks in advance Richard http://www.onlinepriceguide.co.uk I also bought one of these a while back and had the problem described in 1. above. I disabled the auto-update and have had no probems since. Humax advised me that a firmware update to fix this problem was being issued but I have never found it. I live in the fringes of Crystal Palace and initially got problems similar to 2. above. Since servicing the 30 year old Jaybeam MBM36 (removing, cleaning terminals, replacing, re-aligning) and replacing the feeder with CT100 I have had no further problems. The performance of this set is excellent and the picture equal to the best I have seen on any TV. |
Humax LGB17DTTV problems
I tried the TV first thing this morning and had the first problem I
described - I've now switched off the auto update feature and will keep checking over the weekend to see if that resolve the issue. Thanks for the information and hopefully someone else out there can help with finding these upgrades/downloads... If you disable the auto-update you won't need any firmware
upgrades/downloads. The problem (when auto-update is not disabled) is caused by an automatic attempt to download new software being made at about 2:00? every night. After this attempt a power cycle is needed to fully install any download. I presume the all the Freeview boxes in the house are fed from the same aerial via a *proper* distribution amplifier? Have you tried putting the Humax in a room where reception is good? "Online Price Guide" wrote in message oups.com... As far as I know it's a *proper* distribution amp - an aerial man
fitted it for me and reception on all other TVs in the house is pretty good. We get very occasional problems with reception on freeview from time to time but then don't most people get that? I've still got to try the Humax with a better quality aerial cable and also in an upstairs room which has a TV aerial socket but obviously a shorter cable length from the distribution point. Eventually (in years to come) I think I will need to get the whole digital TV/Radio aerial thing sorted out as I also have a Pure DAB HiFi which needs better reception but it's okay for now and I can't bring myself to spend the amounts I've been quoted... I guess I'm just too cheap! :) Malcolm H wrote: If you disable the auto-update you won't need any firmware upgrades/downloads. Now I've switched off that Auto-Update feature, there are *definitely*
no more problems with "false starts" when turning on the TV from stand-by! Better news too when trying the TV on a different aerial outlet (nearer the distribution box) as there were less reception problems so it looks like the TV is a little fussy about signal quality/strength and if I want to use it in the original location I'll need to get the cabling checked! Good news! Make sure that double screened CT100 type cable is used wherever
possible. I think this Humax tv is absolutely excellent! Have you succeeded in completing the top level 'Egg' game? I think it is impossible! "Online Price Guide" wrote in message oups.com... Anyway have a Code for using this TV with a sky digibox remote? Lee |
