The pictures were complete and utter ****. They were totally blurred
just like everything the BBC takes from foreign broadcasters and you
couldn't see the features on players faces.


Looked pretty good to me on a 32" analogue LCD and freeview ...

Probably not. ITV will not be the host broadcasters, F1-TV are.

Ah, good point, I forgot that...

That's right, F1-TV are host broadcaster, irrespective of country hosting the
race.

They where as good as SKY's Premiership footy, and that's saying something
for the BBC. Even ITV's evening match didn't seem as compressed as normal.

I thought the picture quality on Freeview good and no more. My one complaint
is that most of the time you felt like you were sat in the back row of the
upper stand. The only other angle was close up. Not enough middle distance
used. I noticed this in yesterday's games too. In the words of one famous
card advert 'ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM'.

And if the few bits of that England V whoever 'game' I saw whilst
mucking about with STB's earlier were anything to go by, the
'highlights' wouldn't take up more than a few kB on any DVR .. ;-)

This was one of the very noticeable things about the original HD coverage
of Wimbledon, all of 15 years ago. Because there was so much detail in the
HD picture, directors didn't neet to go in for middle distance shots.

Of course, when the pictures are also used on normal tv, there is a
problem. Mind you, there may not be all that many HD camera about.
