Extended Warranty
Just bought the Samsung HL-S5087W 50" HDTV at Circuit City. In the end the
sales guy talked me into buying the 2 year protection plan for about $300 after he tried selling me on the 5 year. Stated that unlike manufacturer it covered complete in home repair for 2 years including bulb and power surge. I was told that manufacturer warranty only covered bulb for 30 days and no in home service. At least thats the way I recall it though it was somewhat confusing. Is this protection plan worth it or not? I was told I can call within 30 days and cancel the plan and get a refund. I figure the bulb is likely $250 not? Matt |

Check Warrantech, you'll need to google as they don't sell direct. I got a 5-yr on-site warranty and a seperate 3-yr 2-bulb warranty for a total of $300 on my JVC 61" HD61Z585 HDTV. |

I recently bought a Sony HiDef Handycam from Ciruit City. The MSRP is $1,500 and Circuit City was competitive at $1,350. But, they wanted $430 for a 4-year extended coverage service plan, including accidental damage. Sonystyle sells the same coverage for $180. Sony requires the plan be purchased within 60 days of the camcorder's purchase, and (I believe, but am not certain) the dealer has to be an authorized Sony dealer. |

Is this protection plan worth it or not? Some general advice; old but still valid: http://www.access-one.com/rjn/consumer/extended-warranty.txt In the specific case of large-screen TVs, an additional thing to avoid is having to ship the monster somewhere at your own expense. Aside from the cost, no carriers will insure them (yes, they'll take the money for the insurance, but they won't pay any claims). -- Regards, Bob Niland http://www.access-one.com/rjn email4rjn AT yahoo DOT com NOT speaking for any employer, client or Internet Service Provider. |

Looks like it was a great move. The newly installed light engine ain't cutting it. One some shows I've got strange colors showing up all over the screen. Aaarrggghhhh!! I couldn't find anything cheaper than the one I got, or at least not from a company that I knew anything about. Lloyd |

It's through N.E.W. and sold at the Navy Exchange here in Corpus. The servicer says it's the same company some of the big box stores use and he's replaced lamps under the warranty as well. I bought the same plan for my 37 inch Westinghouse LCD. Plasma is a different story--$299 for a two year! Dave Clary/Corpus Christi, Tx Home: http://davidclary.com |
