FilmFour free on Sky?

That site doesn't make it clear whether it will be FTA or FTV even
though
they use the term 'free to air' I suspect it will be free to view as,
Channel 4, currently is.

It looks like it wiill be FTA - they do make it clear on the site that it
will be on freesat.

"How will I receive FilmFour?
The channel will launch on Freeview for the first time and will continue
to be available to all cable and satellite viewers at no additional cost.
On digital satellite, the FilmFour Channel will be available to freesat
viewers as well as Sky digital subscribers. "

Cool thanks!

Well, I wouldn't count my chickens just yet.
Thinking more about it, the statement is still a bit ambiguous.

If it was truely, fully FTA, then why make an explicit comment about "Sky
digital subscribers" - as in it will be available to *subscribers*?
Does that mean if you have a Sky box you must be a subscriber to a sky
package to pick up Film4?
But people with other non-sky satellite receivers can pick it up FTA?

who knows. C4 did make similar statements about More 4 that turned out not
to be FTA on sky

I've asked C4 by email whether it will be properly FTA, and reminded them
that FreesatFromSky is about twice the price of other freesat sets.
I'll let you know what comes back.

How would that work then? For it to be available on non-Sky boxes it would
have to be fully FTA (not encrypted), which means a Sky box would be able to
receive it without a viewing card.

That would mean FTV, not FTA.

That sentence that you focused on could be interpreted in that way, yes.

But other parts of the paragraph make it ambiguous

"The channel will launch on Freeview for the first time and will continue to
be available to all cable and satellite viewers at no additional cost. On
digital satellite, the FilmFour Channel will be available to freesat viewers
as well as Sky digital subscribers."

e.g. "available to all cable and satellite viewers at no additional cost"
all? whether you subscribe to Sky or not?
no additional cost? well if you are already a subscriber, no additional cost
would be a true statement.

However, at least FTV means that it should not be part of a sky subscription
package, (though still require a Sky viewing card)

So as usual C4 find it difficult to be precise about what they actually mean
and the people who write such statements there would seem to still not fully
understand the difference between FTA and FTV, or between Freesat, Sky, and
Freesatfromsky.

I agree, that's why I was asking the question about being explicit in their
statements about Sky *subscribers*.
Why make such a statement if it is FTA, unless of course it is just trying
to be inclusive, as in Sky subscibers will also get it by virtue of the fact
they they get all FTA channels anyway.

Our local Carrefour has FTA digital satellite receivers for just 37 Euros or
just over twenty pounds!

I wonder if your email will reach someone that understands the question.

I think it is saying, or trying to say a bit more than that.
Clearly it is saying something about cost, and availability on Freeview and
Freesat
