Alternatives to wall mounted sat. dishes
Hi,
As I live in a listed building I cant have a dish on the side of my house without obtaining permission. Besides which I do not particularly want one! Having seen the recent post about the disguised dishes available, I wondered if anybody has any experience or info on acceptable alternatives to a dish on the building? There is no real possibility of having a normal dish inside the house which probably means an external solution, although I do not want a normal dish on a tripod in the garden. I have seen the cubsat advertised that looks quite useful as it can sit on the floor and also some squarial style 'dishes'. However, I cant find any real reviews of them in action. If anybody has any opinions or ideas I'd love to hear them cheers jonny |

I've seen them in flower beds that you almost wouldn't notice unless they were pointed out to you. -- Adrian |

Seen one in a flower bed, at the base of a wall, height about 2 ft,but be careful what you plant in front of it. -- Dave Fawthrop dave hyphenologist co uk Google Groups is IME the *worst* method of accessing usenet. digiglobe look fine http://www.sdsdigital.co.uk/Digiglob...sh-pr-615.html or many other retailers. I think such things are too expensive. A conventional minidish can be hidden so easily. Bill |

Perhaps there's a business opportunity for manufacturing a small portable
bed of artificial flowers incorporating a cunningly concealed satellite dish, this could be then strategically placed somewhere in the corner of the garden without anyone realising its true purpose ;o) What's really needed is a Phased Array Radar type of flat dish, like the squarial but it goes Flat against the wall and is steered electronically until it looks upwards and sideways at the right angle. They should make a Long and Thin version too, say 3 feet from top to bottom and only 6 inches wide. With the right kind of electronics you could have a satellite dish on a reel, like duct tape with a phased array of half inch dipoles for 12 GHz printed in it. Just spool out a long enough length of tape and let the electronics do the rest. |

Great in theory, but where can you *buy* them? at what price? -- Dave Fawthrop dave hyphenologist co uk Google Groups is IME the *worst* method of accessing usenet.
