So, next is bigger living room, you need a bigger house too, but
wait, now you
can make money by inviting your neighbours.

In the fifties one family in the street where we lived had a
(BW) TV,
and all the kids could come and see it for 10 cent.

The room was packed.

'The Army Game' - later on, 'Sgt Bilko' as well ..and we
got free home made ice-lollies, if we were polite and well
behaved - at no charge.. ;))

So what is new.

...a few years later, by not a lot, the children's TV serial
on the analogue one channel BBC.. something about a sword
and Hungary or something, iirc...

...then the serial, 'White Horses' (Vienna?) from German TV
or whatever and, (serialised??), 'White Horses of Summer',
or somesuch - ie White Horses in The Algarve before it
became a popular tourist trap..???

But given prices of houses these days......

...and airfares - we can now weekend in Vienna and/or
the Algarve for more or less the cost of a decent meal
out. Anyone fancy feeding a carrot to one of the very
regal Upizzaner horses - if you don't get arrested, or
a firmly planted horse-hoof up the proverbial, first! ;))

Thinks.. that first Bush BW TV cost around 130.00gbp, with
the set insurance... nowadays around 3000.00gbp? or more,
for just the one channel. Recall, years later when it
had been decommissioned from the sitting room, putting a
small piece of green 'plastic' over the bottom of the screen
and trying to imagine just what a colour piccie would look
like...?

My Dad beat us all to it. He attended a conference and
returned, pleased about watching Wimbledon in colour ..and,
delight of delights, neither queues nor inaffordable tickets...

;))

Indeed, how times change.. ;))

:)) ..it's only a vague memory.. but you're likely
correct. Seem to remember someone chasing after a
truck, from inside the rear of the truck, for some
reason. Might have confused images and serials, of
course.. it's so long ago. Perhaps time to research
the TV sites..
