Lost 5.1 Dolby Digital on Series II
Hey guys,
I'm at a loss here. I noticed that while watching a "Dolby Digital" show via my Series II Hughes DVR, that my receiver was not indicating 5.1 audio. I tried several shows that Tivo indicated were "Dolby Digital" but had the same results. In other words my receiver indicated that there were not six separate audio channels. I figured I must have changed some setting on my AV receiver, but when I fed a different input into the receiver via optical cable, (e.g. swapped Direct TV optical signal with DVD optical cable) the AV receiver lit up indicating a 5.1 signal. So from this test, my AV receiver appears to be working fine. I went into the DirectTV/Tivo settings and made sure that I had the correct settings for 5.1 out instead of stereo out. So I have concluded that one of the following must be true. 1. Just becaue the channel guide on Tivo says "Dolby Digital" it may not be a 5.1 signal. 2. It's possible that the optical cable from my DirecTV/Tivo box is working, but not well enough to handle 5.1 signals. Any suggestions? |

The only 5.1 material on DTV is on the premium movie channels unfortunately. The shows are produced in 5.1, they give that data to the company that DTV sources its guide data from, but they don't pass along the 5.1 to us : (. Between that, the lack of HD and the fact that when more HD content is available, DTV wants to replace our TiVo, I'm leaning back toward the ripoff Comcast. |

I don't have any of the DirecTV premium channels, so the only 5.1 I get on my HR10-250 is what comes over the air in High Def. -Joe |
