MORE4 picture quality

I don't watch MORE4 because of the dark cancer-like shadow in the top left
(for no benefit at all to the viewer).

Anyway, why does the picture quality of MORE4 look one is watching a S-VHS
video tape?

This channel is obviously over-compressed and in a lower resolution than C4
or FIVE. The outline of objects is less distinct with round or complex
shapes showing compression artefacts. Typically the DOG will have
compression artefacts too.

I suppose when

1. many members of the public don't care about picture and sound quality.
2. many members of the public are thick.
3. the only "feedback" mechanism is "to not watch" the channel, of which the
channel is insulated from this effect anyway.
4. the regulator is useless and does not care about these details.
5. MORE4 is a subsidised business, not a business directly run to make a
private equity owner wealth.

is why this is.

If I were a MORE4 channel controller, I would want my channel to have the
highest quality picture possible. It says something that this is not Peter
Dale's intention.

I am minded to miss NYPD Blue on 4BLUR and wait either for a C4 airing or
DVD / Torrent broadcast.

IIRC, More4 has a 544x576 frame size but More4+1 uses the 720x576 frame size

Are you by any chance a radiographer?
Or a doctor, perhaps?

Probably because it needs a bigger DOG.

Haven't checked recently - but does this change between platforms? I
ask, because I know some channels show better on Freeview than cable
(ntl:) for example.

Sorry I did not say: My observations are via Freeview using a Topfield
TF5800PVR and Sony Wega connected using high qualty shielded RGB scart.

MORE4 could do with a strong course of chemotherapy.

The problem with DOG disease is it is malignant and prone to infecting
larger areas.

More 4 is one of the numerous channels on Freeview that are using stupidly
low average bit rates. Others from memory include ITV2/3/4, E4 etc.

Would this explain the problem I have with these channels? My signal
strength is very high but these channels (all on the same multiplex)
have a problem whereby the picture blacks out and the sound disappears
every 20 seconds or so. More4+1 and E4+1 don't do this. Also if I put
subtitles on then it's okay as well.
