red/blue/green lines across top of screen...HUH?
Recently purchased a refurbed 34" widescreen CRT from phillips.com. Model is
34PW8402. OK, so all of a sudden we are seeing three very thin, parallel lines running horizontally across the screen, about an inch or two from the top. Three lines, one each in red green and blue. So far we have ONLY noticed these lines when we use the "Zoom 16:9" mode, which stretches/zooms 16:9 content to fille the screen, eliminating the letterbox effect. THe lines run horizontally on the screen, though they are not totally straight, and seem to "flicker" on and off occassionally...maybe for a minute or two at a time, then it stops for awhile. (Almost looks like three lines of sideways lightning. Red, green and blue lightning that is.) At first I though it was the cables and/or inputs on the TV, but this happens on two different AV inputs when in the "Zoom 16:9" mode (both the Playstation2 and the DirecTV box). Both are composite cables. (the cheap ones, this is strictly a fancy SDTV box for now. No HDMI or Component yet.) Any ideas on WHAT this may be? I'd like to be able to say I can live with it and just not use the zoom feature, but that is not gonna happen. :) Thanks in adavance for your helpful replies. |

Even if we correctly identify the problem, what are you going to do about it?! Still requires service that you can't perform. Call the dealer, or the nearest authorized repair station. |

The Phillips set uses the Sony tube. Which set is that? Which tube? Does it use similar AKB circuitry? The IK sampling, if it is even used has nothing to do with the crt used. I have also yet to see a Philips set with a Sony crt. Where did you get this info? Also, most posters in this group prefer bottom posting. Regardless, mixing it up in a post is really confusing. You might want to edit your posts to be more clear. Leonard |

Leonard This is great and all, but doesn't help me much. Someone above referred to overscan? What's that all about? Something I can adjust if needed? |
