Composite vs Component cable/pixeling help!
What is the difference between a composite HD cable (from cable box to
HDTV) and a component cable? I have some pixeling and sometimes my TV goes to black. I have the cable company coming (again) to see if they can fix this problem. In the meanwhile I called the TV mfg and they said to possibly try a "component" cable in place of the composite cable. The mfg (Vizio) said that there is a compatibility issue with the SA 8300 and their TV connected by the HDMI cable (which i don't use). Any suggestions...? PS: I just split my screen with one side with the HD cable box feed and the other with the other line from the splitter. The line directly into the TV no problems, from the cable box, still pixels at times.. Any help? |
Composite vs Component cable/pixeling help!
Generally a composite (one cable) connection from you HD receiver/decoder
cannot carry an HD signal. The connection should be component (3 cables). HDMI connections between receivers and HDTVs often do not work in my experience; there are many compatibiltiy issues. However DVDs read by a machine that upconverts the signal and puts it out over HDMI are even better than DVDs viewed over component connections. Occasional pixellation of HD signals is a fact of life along with occasional desyncrhonization of audio and video and dropped signals no matter what you do. Some sources are worse than others. It is difficult to know in any specific instance where the fault lies: is it the program source, the satellite/cable feed, your hardware, gremlins? In my experience ABC HD signals desynchronize audo and video more frequently than other sources, but a few days ago that was a problem with the NBC HD signal. The local over the air CBS HD broadcaster has more pixellation in its live sports shows than I see in live sports on satellite HD feeds of ABC or NBC. Curiously ESPN, an ABC subsidiary, tends to put out the best HD signal of live events of any broadcaster I receive, but they may just be a local quirk. |
