Is this a known problem?

I set up my Philips DTT decoder to switch itself on to ITV4 one minute or so
before ITV4 was due to broadcast, as I wanted to record 'Department S',
which I have not seen since childhood.

The VCR was set up properly.

When I came home to view the recording, the entire soundtrack was there, but
the entire programme action was overlaid with a message stating that "ITV4
is due to begin broadcasting at six o'clock"

WTF?

What's wrong with that? The message looks gramatically correct, spelling
is fine and it makes sense!!! :p

Think your decoder is trying to tell you ITV4 does not exist before 6pm.
You as a person would read that and switch over. On the other hand, your
VCR can't read ;-). The remedy is either set the ITV4 timer for a bit
later or set it early with the channel number that timeshares with ITV4,
and hope the dumbness of your philips box doesn't twig the content has
changed.

I have a similar problem at the moment with a box at a head end that gets
confused between CBeebies and BBC3 (or 4, can't remember) and gets stuck.
