• Sony RDR-HXD710 switching on at approx 04:00 AM
 

Hi,

This unit appears to switch on at 04:00 AM prompt each morning. I am
not sure whether it is updating the channel list, or the EPG data, or
something else, but it is a bit annoying as its in a bedroom.

Any known way of turning it off?

No. I have an older Sony 500 Freeview recorder and also a 910 (bigger
710, in effect). Both of these models download their EPG data at around
04:00 every morning. My 500 DVD recorder is in the bedroom and it does
make a little noise, but nothing too untoward. I'm usually asleep so i
hear it very rarely.

My 910 recorder does have the habit of running it's fan and hd for
several hours each morning. I suspect that it wakes-up at 04:00 grabs
the EPG data, then releases that it doesn't like the temperature in my
front room (too cold?). Odd thing is, if I power-cycle the box, it stays
quiet for weeks on end, before doing this. When the Sony 500 DVD
recorder was in the same spot in the front room, it did exactly the same
from time to time. Strange.

If you're hearing fan and hd noise from your 710 then I could see
(hear?) how that could be a bit annoying. You could try calling Sony,
but the 710/910 handbook does mention, as I recall, that the unit can
operate its fan/hd/whatever.

I got used to the switch-on at around 04:00 for a few minutes, then as
you said it was on for approximately 3 hours doing something with the
fans/HDDs. I power cycled it ant it is back to where it was now -
i.e, not disturbing me. Will see how it goes.
