Are you sure that wasn't some kind of surreal dream?

The price of Chickens for your dinner will go way down.

Best to avoid Swan Vesta Curries, though.

Is that related to bird flu or just a useful piece of advice?

I doubt you will be scoffing when you are gasping for breath.

Like all the scientists involved I am very scared of the
potentialities of
bird flu mutated to a human form. Irrelevant scare stories don't help
you
prepare for the real thing.

However it is not an irrelevant "scare story", there is a very real
and grave danger which is not helped by the foolish behaviour
of the government which puts profits before lives.

Their main message, that it is safe to eat cooked chicken and
eggs is folly. The bird you are preparing, or the egg you
are cracking may already be infected with bird flu so you
are handling the flesh and fluids of an infected bird.
But that is a risk you *must* take otherwise the directors
of your local supermarket might miss their annuall bonus.

Ask yourself one question, have you seen Blair, a member
of the RSPB, a member of the farmers union, or a
supermarket barron *handling* a raw egg or raw chicken
yet?

I haven't which is a surprise.

This bird was found a *week* ago.

FFS sake, it was a *swan*. How many of those do you find on a
supermarkets shelves?

Fantastic.

But it does make me yearn for the overblown graphics and self-important
presentational style of "The Day Today"...

You clearly need to shop at a better grade of supermarket, they're
normally just down the aisle from the lark's tongue in aspic.

So have you had your vacination?
Doesn't the government have a legal duty to protect it citizens?

Opps wrong group, forwarding to uk.legal and misc

It's just as wrong there as here. What chances do you think you have of
catching bird flu if you don't live with birds in your house and slaughter
them on the kitchen table with no regard to normal standards of hygiene?

Hint: No chance or as near makes no difference.

And you cannot have vaccine for the human version until the human version of
the flu actually exists.

Anyone remember the Millennium Bug scare? That died a natural death

Oi! I was worth every penny of the ridiculously inflated salary paid just to
keep a Novell 3.1 box ticking.
