UHF Outputs after analogue switch-off
I was thinking whether analogue UHF modulators will still be used after
the analogue switch off. Presumably TVs will no longer be sold with analogue UHF tuners and whilst SCART or HMDI leads will connect equipment in the same room, building distribution is pretty reliant on UHF. Would a digital UHF modulator be feasible? As there would be only one channel on the multiplex, there would be no need to do interframe compression (I-frames only) which would make the encoder simpler. Or is there some other way of distributing the output of a Sky box? Nick |

I would think as TV sets are a worldwide maufacture item they will continue to be in as long as the world uses the UHF system. I do not think what the UK does on its own effects what is in the shops. EG went this w/e to look for a lcd set to replace the 14" crt in the kitchen. Plenty on sale, but allmost all 3x4 with 5 anologue stations. Only 1 or maybe 2 were w/s and digital. I expected most to be w/s and have Freeview, did not buy but wonder how long to wait. -- Regards David Please reply to News Group |
