Who's your cable provider? Thanks Tom I have a Sharp LC37D5U with a Scientific Atlanta cable card on Comcast cable. So far, two cable cards have gone bad. The first one lasted three months, the second one a month. I got a firmware upgrade on the Sharp. So, lets see what happens with the new card I am getting on Monday. I have been told by Comcast, and the Sharp repair guy that TV Guide will not work. It will probably work on a mom/pop cable system that is analog end to end. Tam |

I have a sharp 45GX6U, the tech couldnt even get it to work. I use
cablevision. I think the providers dont like the idea of it, since they will loose money from renting the boxes out. Would be interested to know if you get it to work. I don't know the brand of the cable card. My cable provider is RCN, which installed fiber optic cable in our 29 story building. The HiDef pictures are beautiful, including TNT which I've seen knocked on this forum. Bill Yowell |

Samsung HL-R6168 1080p TV
Motorola CableCard RCN Cable The TV/CC/CableSystem work fine. Excellent picture, no problems. Many people expect to use the TVGOS system to provide an on-screen program guide when they don't have a cable box. The TVGOS works fine with my setup. Some people have problems with some brands of TV, particularly Toshiba. If your cable company has gone all digital, the TVGOS will not work unless they transmit the TVGOS data channel (typically, but not always, the local PBS channel) in analog format. twfsa wrote: Anyone useing a cable card in there HDTV , what kind of set is it, and are you encountering problems, Do you know the brand of cable card? I have a Toshiba and it has a TV guide on screen system, I don't know what
that would have to do with the cable card as I am not a expert on the subject. I have had a problem with the set loosing its channel memory, with in the 800 series channels, Toshiba sent me a firm ware update that seems to addressed that memory problem. Now I am having trouble with the 800 series channels, I get a tileing effect on the screen when I want to view 815(HBO) that also effects 805 808 809 local HD channels, same on screen tileing. If I go up to a 820 821 822 823 and tune in a HD channel, then go back to the 805 808 809 channels there fine, but 8150 HBO is still messed up. So what I did was turn off the set eject the card, turn on the set ,re-insert the card wait a few seconds and while the card aquires the channels and all the channels are fine, including HBO. I think I know what I may be doing to cause this tileing effect waiting to see if my theory plays out. I think I may be selecting channels to fast when I first turn on the TV, I think I need to turn on the set, wait a few seconds maybe 10 or so,wait till the card stabilizes, then select a channel I want. I think that by selecting channels to soon it confuses the card. If I am right this is bull****, but I can live with it. Also had a message on my voice mail from Toshiba that they think they have a fix and will be contacting me next week. Hope so. Tom "wbertram" wrote in message ... Sometimes turning off the TV, and then unplugging it for 30 seconds works also. That forces a cable card reboot. Tam |

I have a JVC HD-61Z786 with cable card installed for about 1.5 months
now. Works good. HD quality seems quite good. I have Charter with a Motorola card. Charter was not very encouraging when I asked for the cable card, and they politely tried to steer me towards a Moxi box to decode the HD instead. I actually had then install both the Moxi and the cable card when they came out. They thought I was a bit nuts wanting both, but for $2 per month more, I wanted to see how cable card worked. It gave me some viewing/recording flexibility too. It took some effort on their tech's part to get the card to work; The trick being that the cable signal had to be split and run into both the analog and digital cable input on the back of the TV. I'll add that Charter here in Reno NV are pleasant to work with worked hard to get it all hooked up. |
