How long would it take to DL your ISO image to build a myth machine
over the modem?

It would take forever because I wouldn't use a modem to do it. It takes
me about 45 minutes with my fios line. If I only had a modem, I'd pay a
couple of bucks to have someone send me the dvd.

I'm thinking I would have a Tivo set up and working on a broadband
connection before you took all you PC components out of the box and
assmbeled them into something that would boot.

And again you'd be wrong unless you can now set one up without using the
phone line to get the first data. Then I'd say it would be close. I didn't
even get to use my Tivo (or the phone) the first evening I had it.. Well,
maybe 4 hours after I had it hooked up.

Interesting. You find a Tivo computer to be an aplliance, and a MythTV
computer not to be an appliance. Sorry, I just don't agree with that.

An appliance is something you can buy off the shelf.
It comes with a warrantee and reliable company that stands behind it.

MythTV is not an appliance.
-Joe

So, you can't buy a PC off the shelf with a warranty.

That is correct. You cannot buy a PC off the shelf with MythTV
pre-installed, with a warrantee on the software. You get
no corporate support whatsoever with MythTV.

Well, you can build a single HD tuner system on the cheap for probably
$150-$200 using a used PC. Help always in the mythtv NG.

Could your average person do this with little effort or research?

An average person with PC experience could. A complete newbie would have
problems more than likely. But they even have problems setting up
Tivos.:-)

It's not just about how much there is to watch, but what you prefer. For
example, you said you watch sports. Don't you ever want to watch ESPN
or other sports related programming that is just not available on
network tv?

Once in a great while, but not enough to pay hundreds of dollars a year to
watch the few I may want to watch.

at Universal HD has some coverage of the olympics
that is not on network tv, etc....

I don't care about the winter Olympics, and very little about the summer
ones. Don't plan on watching any of it. I'm no longer what one would call
a sports fan. Being in DFW, I think i watched 2 Cowboy games this year,
and maybe 1 the year before that. I watch more golf than any other
sporting event. And no, I don't want the golf channels.:-)

Oh, like you measured this at the wall plug. Give us a break.

Do you plug your CPU into a wall plug? I din't say the total consumption
of the PC. I'll give you a break when you get some brains.

OK, I give up.

I'd like to apologize to the group.

I did'nt realize Wes was a troll.

I wonder why the troll keeps calling Tivo a PC? My iPod has a micro in
it, so I guess he considers it a PC too! But its closed architecture,
they'll never catch on, right Wes?

You'd need a friend for that, perhaps you'd be better off waiting for
the modem download.

Still can't read I see. I've got a fios 5/2M broadband line. I don't need
anyone.:-)

No, but with the slightest amount of intelligence you could figure out
just how much actual power recording 4 shows takes vs. power just
sitting there waiting to record. It's a little thing most of us learned
in elementary school called "subtraction".

I din't say the total consumption
of the PC.

But, then without the rest of the PC, I don't think you'd record much
at all, would you?

And now I'm real curious how you came to that conclusion. So, you must be
saying that 1280x1024 monitor won't really do 1280x1024 either then, or
that a 640x400 monitor won't really do 640x 400. Can you explain this?

There are no 19" CRT monitors that can fully resolve 1600x1200 and that
also cost less than $500. Do some research.

So how about this one;

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CMP=SPC-YAHOO

And there's many more. Hundreds under $500. So all these manufactures are
basically liars is what you are saying. AOC, Memorex, CTX, Proview,
KDS just to name a few that have 19' 1600x1200 monitors with most being
under $200. Some like mine, under $100.

From AOC;

The 9GLR's wide display area promises easy viewing. A .21mm (h) mask dot
pitch and 1600x1200 resolution, running at 200Mhz, make content sharp. It
also offers multiple OSD functions.

This sells for $149. You might be able to fool a lot of people with your
BS, and excellent writing skils, but I'm not one of them.
