Will the Humax HFA100 HDTV receiver work with a VGA monitor ???
I recently purchased a Humax HFA100 HDTV receiver from Buy.com. It has a
connector on the back that will accept a standard 15-pin plug from a computer monitor, but nothing in the instruction manual mentions using this unit with a VGA computer monitor. The buy.com web site mentions as one of the provided ports.... "1 x 15-pin D-Sub VGA".... but nothing in the instructions that came with the Humax mentions the term "VGA" in any context. In the manual it is called an "Analog component RGB output". I have been reluctant to plug in a VGA monitor, because of some unfortunate past experiences. I hate that burning smell and I hate the sight of smoke coming from my electronic gadgets. I made this purchase because I did not have any way of recording and saving any digital and/or HDTV programs for later viewing. I can now record these programs on my standalone DVD recorder as well as on my computer using either my ATI Radeon or my Hauppage USB2 WinTV device so I am happy with my purchase. If it turns out that I can also use a VGA-LCD monitor by plugging it directly into the HFA100, I will be "as happy as a pig in a mud hole". Thanks for any input, PON |

Thanks for any input, PON I looked into this once and it appeared that a 15 Pin RGB" was the same as a "15 Pin VGA". But I couldn't find definitive authority on this. So I never tried it. http://www.optomahometheater.com/howto/b8_4.asp http://www.technick.net/public/code/...nvid_vga_15pin |

I asked this question via Email to Humax support. I am including in this follow-up a full copy of my question to them and the response that I got from them. Will the Humax HFA100 HDTV receiver work with a VGA monitor ???
Philip, I had a Philips/Magnovox MV5011 Computer monitor setting on a closet shelf. Yesterday I plugged it into to the Humax HFA100 hdtv receiver and it does indeed work just fine. I had to move the slide switch on the back of the unit to the RGB position and I had to re-adjust the brightness and contrast but I did end up with an absolutely perfect picture. I don't understand why they don't mention using a VGA computer monitor somewhere in the instruction manual. Maybe they just assume that everyone already knows. Did you try changing the output from 480p to 1080i to see if the monitor adjusted to it? Or did it do just 480i? Thanks PON PON +++++++++++ Philip wrote in om: Pseud O.
