LyngSat Web site wrong??
He said "is it crap" not "it is crap". Big difference.
Exactly - I asked "is it crap?", and I even began my question by suggesting it was ME who'd got it wrong. Anyway, enough of this. It still looks to me like the Lyngsat site is wrong in a number of areas. I'll compare it with the other sites Michael and David gave links to, and report back. If I've got my knickers in a twist, or my sat box is misreporting what is on which frequency, I'll make a public and humble apology in this forum. If not, I'll rephrase my question into a statement! Like all of us a newbie is expected to treat anything and everything with respect unless there is clear evidence to the contrary. Not "is this site crap?" but "is this site reliable?". It's a different approach but it's one that we could all use to general benefit. -- John Cartmell [email protected] followed by finnybank.com 0845 006 8822 Qercus magazine FAX +44 (0)8700-519-527 www.finnybank.com Qercus - the best guide to RISC OS computing |

We're all cheesed off at times and make stupid comments - usually far worse than your own minor slip. What does clear it all up nicely is what you have just done! ;-) -- John Cartmell [email protected] followed by finnybank.com 0845 006 8822 Qercus magazine FAX +44 (0)8700-519-527 www.finnybank.com Qercus - the best guide to RISC OS computing |

LyngSat Web site wrong??
Thanks, Simon, for that reply.
My LNB is "Quad universal SkyWare SX719QS/S LNB, mounted on a standard Sky minidish. My receiver (the Fortec Star Lifetime Classic from Maplin) has the following choices for the "LNB" setting: 5150 9750 10000 10050 10600 10750 11200 11475 SINGLE-SL SINGLE-SH 0 UNI I have it set to UNI. I have the "LNB Power" set to 14/18, although I've tried it on 14/19 and it seems the same. The "22kHz" can be set to OFF, ON or AUTO. However, when the LNB type is set to UNI the "22kHz" setting goes straight to AUTO and is greyed out (visible but can't be altered). I've had my knuckes rapped for dissing the Lyngsat site, and am quite happy to be shown that I've got my set up wrong. If so, I'll make a fulsome apology! Does it look like I've got everything set up correctly? I can't see anything wrong myself. Thanks, Steve |

It might be worth selecting 10.600 and 9.750 manually instead of setting UNI and then doing a rescan, just in case the box has a fault. The UNI setting switches automatically between these two options. Has the box got one LNB connector or two, by the way? Some boxes have auto input switching and some have loopthrough to a second box. The latter is useful for diagnosing switching faults when you have left your expensive test gear at home (or your son has nicked it out of your van while you were having a lie-in). I have the "LNB Power" set to 14/18, although I've tried it on 14/19 and it seems the same. Check with a volt meter whether the voltage on the LNB connector switches as it should. The "22kHz" can be set to OFF, ON or AUTO. However, when the LNB type is set to UNI the "22kHz" setting goes straight to AUTO and is greyed out (visible but can't be altered). That makes sense. I've had my knuckes rapped for dissing the Lyngsat site, and am quite happy to be shown that I've got my set up wrong. If so, I'll make a fulsome apology! Don't you take any notice of them. They're all a set of grumpy old men on here! There's only me that's nice. Bill |
