Harmony remote and Samsung

Does anyone know if the Harmony remote can control a Samsung HDTV inputs
directly. The Samsung remote forces the user to toggle through all the video
inputs one by one. So if there are 6 active inputs and you are on input 3 (for
example) and you want to change to input 2... you have to press the input button
slowly to 4 and then 5 and then 6 and then 1 and finally 2.
I happen to own the LNR328W if that's relevant.

Call Logitech support and ask them. Sonys have direct access codes, so it's
possible that the Sammys do as well.

It is likely not a Harmony issue at all. It can do only what the Samsung
allows. Since we don't sell Samsung I am not very familiar with their lines
ability. I do know that a couple of years ago Samsung had an issue with
this, as our programmer ran into it on an installation where we did sell
one. IIRC, it was more a matter of finding the right codes than that the
set would not use them. I think he had to enter the hex codes directly in
the Marantz remote, rather than learning the codes from the Samsung remote.
Go to remotecnetral.com. It is the resource for all remote programming that
would have the info. You will likely also find the info on AVSForum.

I have a Samsung 5063W DLP and a Harmony 688 remote. It will directly
access the
individual inputs. The only exception is the PC input on the TV. I
have to press
the input button to cycle over to it.

How did your Harmony learn the code to directly change the Samsung input?

You plug the remote into you computer, and it logs on to the Logitech
website. After you list all your equipment (TV,DVD player, etc), the
most common things are automatically programmed into the remote (on/off,
channel changes, volume, etc). The remote has 4 dedicated "activity"
buttons which you can assign to anything you want. For example when I
press the "Watch TV" button, the TV turns on, the receiver turns on and
switches to Satellite input, and the TV input is switched to S-Video1.
If I press the "Watch DVD" button, the TV Turns on, the DVD player turns
on, the receiver turns on and switches to the DVD input, and the TV
input switched to Component input.

On the LCD screen, you can create your own buttons, give them a label
and assign any function you like to them (like direct access any given
input, with the exception of the PC input on my TV). It is the same as
putting 2 remotes head to head and teaching one of them the codes,
except you are doing it on a web site and the correct code is picked off
a menu and downloaded into your remote.

Thanks for that information. Although we have different Samsung models it looks
like mine likely responds to discreet codes. I've been searching the web and
couldn't find definitive answers to that question. The ability to change inputs
directly is my main reason for wanting the Harmony remote. I have another
universal remote that came with a Pioneer receiver that controls all my
functions currently but has to toggle through the inputs. And no-one in the
family but me has memorized what button does what. So the "Watch TV" button etc.
sounds good.
Does your Harmony use discreet codes to turn the TV on and off. If the TV is
already on and you press your "Watch DVD" button does the TV stay on?

Yes, it will stay on if you press another "Watch" button. However, if
you switch the
remote to only control the TV, and turn it on, the first "watch" button
you
push will send out the on/off code and turn the TV off. This is where
you use the
HELP button to get the TV back into sync. When you first press the HELP
button, if asks "Did that fix the problem". You would answer NO. It
then asks if the TV is on. If you answer NO, it sends out the code and
the TV comes on. It then asks if that fixed the problem, and if you
answer YES, that is the end of it. If you answer NO, then it moves on
to the other devices that should be on.

Also, on my TV, you cannot directly access the Picture modes
(WS,Zoom,4:3). You must cycle thru them to make changes.
